Fitting a cloth to another character Example 2 (1)
In this second step, we will fit the New Young Woman outfit to Penny.
A lot of work for a tailor ! First delete evrything in you scene or reset (File > New) Cloth part 1 : the blouse 9) Load Penny Nude. In Figure > Use Inverse Kinematics, uncheck all parts. Using File > Import > Wavefront obj, load our blouse obj file. In prop import options, uncheck all but weld indentical verticies.
Do you remenber that in the first example, we tried to cheat with the
gravity influence by using the density, air damping and friction
parameters ?
We will use here a different way. As we know that the final cloth will need a constrained group, we will build it in two step : first the future constrained part, then the rest. |
10) Using the parameter dials window, scale the blouse to 72%, then
move it like shown in the image on the left.
![]() |
11) Then set your last animation frame to 15.
Select penny's body and scale it on frame 1 like in the image on the left. Go on frame 15 and set all body scale dials to 100%. In 15 frames, penny will move from the size we choosed to fit the cloth to her real size. |
12) Enter the cloth room.
Create a new simulation ; in simulation settings, set end frame to 15 and check cloth self-collision. Clothify the blouse ; in collide against, select Figure1 (penny), set collision offset to 0.5 and check the 3 ignore collision boxes. Then click on Edit dynamic group. In the group editor click on remove all, then select only the top of the blouse like in the image on the left (don't forget the rear part : turn around the cloth to be sure all the verticies are selected). Run the simulation. Our blouse top is ready. |
| 13) Select the frame 15 and export your new blouse using
file > export > wavefront obj. Choose single frame, select the
blouse item only, uncheck all the options.
Delete the simulation. Delete the cloth. Then import the new blouse obj you just saved, using file > import > wavefront obj, unchecking all options. |
14) Create a new simulation ; set the end frame to 15 and check cloth
self-collision.
Clothify you new blouse ; then in collide against, select the penny figure ; set collision offset to 0.5, uncheck start draping and check the 3 ignore collision boxes. Click on choreographed group. Select the verticies as shown on the left (again don't forget the back part). These verticies are already fitted as we want, so we can "freeze" them (choreographed group will stay without movind in their poser world location). Run the simulation. |
| 15) Again, select the frame 15 and export your new blouse
using file > export > wavefront obj. Choose single frame, select
the blouse item only, uncheck all the options.
Delete the simulation. Delete the cloth. Then import the last blouse obj you saved, using file > import > wavefront obj, unchecking all options. Delete and reload penny, or delete the animation if you prefer, resizing penny's body to 100%. |
16) Go in the cloth room and create a new simulation. Don't worry
about the parameters, we only want to create the constrained group which
will be saved with the prop.
Clothify the blouse and select penny in collide against. Now click on edit constrained group, and with the cloth editor select the blouse verticies like in the left image. Now you can save your blouse in the prop directory that you want. |
| End of the blouse part. Now the most difficult part is for the pants . We will do it now ; after the rest will seem easy. | |
