Step 1

P4 to P5 conversion example 2

Back Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4

In this second tutorial, we will try to increase the difficulties by :
using a cloth with multiple parts imbricated in the conforming groups
fitting a cloth to a very different character

We will use an arabian fantasy set I made for the DAZ Nude Young Woman and convert penny into a thousand and one nights child.

We will learn how to use the group editor to rework our cloth parts.

On the left image, you see the 11 groups of the conforming cloth (it could be worse : as the pant is morphed we have only a hip part).

The cloth we need for the cloth room should have 5 parts :

a veil on the head
a short blouse
two veil sleeves (apart from the blouse)
a pant

If we study the cloth, we see that :
head veil = head + neck + a part from chest
blouse = right collar + left collar + a part from chest
right sleeve = right forearm + right shoulder
left sleeve = left forearm + left shoulder
pant = hip

Not too much : we will have only the chest to reprocess.

Now it's time to begin. Download the obj file HERE  (1,33 Mo). Do it even if you have already my confoming cloth (the pants were self-intersected, shame on me, and I had to redraw them for the purpose). Unzip the file in a temporary directory.

1) Then using File > Import > Wavefront obj, import in poser NYWArabian.obj

Uncheck all the prop import options.

2) Select the group editor in the editing tools palette.

The NYWArabian prop beeing selected, click on Spawn props.

This will create new props for all the clothes groups, as you can see in the select current actor menu.

We have now to build the new props that we need with a mix of the spawn props.

3) Use File > Export > Wavefront obj. Keep single frame selected. In the hierarchy selection, click on universe to unselect all then select rForearm and rShldr

Save as RSleeve in your temporary directory. In options, check only Weld body part seams to create a one piece obj.

Then repeat the same steps for :

lForearm and lShldr selected saved as LSleeve
hip selected saved as Pant
abdomen, rCollar and lCollar selected saved as Blouse1
head and neck selected saved as Veil1
chest selected saved alone as chest as we have to work on it.

Now begin the part where we will have to be meticulous. Delete everything or reset with File > New ; in this case, delete any figure if necessary (I am used to open poser on an empty window to save time).

4) Using File > Import > Wavefront obj, import the chest prop we have just saved. Uncheck all the prop import options.

5) Open the group editor. Create a new group  named Blouse.

Now little bit by little bit, begin to select the blouse polygons. Use the camera controls to go around the prop, zoom to be sure you selected everything. Take care not to select any veil polygon.

You see that you can't select backfacing polygons, this will help you in this case.

6) When you think every blouse polygon is selected, create a new group named veil.

Click Agg Group and select Blouse, then click Invert.

The veil part sould be selected. Now ckeck for any blouse polygon grouped with the veil, or any polygon missing in the veil, ad correct if necessary the grouping switching from one group to another and using to add or remove polygons..

When finished, click as in step 2 on the spawn props button.

Save as in step 3 the new veil prop created as Veil2.obj and the new blouse prop as Blouse2.obj

7) Delete everything or reset.

Using File > import > wavefront obj, import the veil1 obj file. Check weld identical verticies only in options.

Then do the same for veil2 obj file.

Now using File > export > wavefont obj, save your new prop as one piece named veil : select the two parts and check weld body part seams in options.

8) With the same steps, import the obj files blouse1 and blouse 2 and save as one piece blouse.

Our first step is finished and our P5 cloth created. We are now ready to go in the cloth room.
